Two of the yurts we stayed in |
The first weekend we spent at a Yurt farm just outside Goulburn Back to Basics with friends and family in three yurts. We were the only ones there.
The third yurt we occupied |
It was very basic indeed. The "donkey" (cylinder containing water that is heated by fire) had to be fired up to get any hot water for a shower.
Thankfully there were two flush toilets which were the choice over the two dunnys (long drops) situated further up the hill. One of the dunnys was at the top of a hill made of stone on top of which was a wooden seat - lol - the throne from which you can see the world around you.
We slept on mattresses on the floor, each yurt had a small fireplace.
Woodworking yurt - the boys had fun chopping wood and building |
It was freezing that weekend. Overcast, sudden downpours, even a bit of hale and cold winds could have made for a miserable weekend, but it wasn't.
We had fun. No stresses of modern life, our basic needs met, walking, playing, chopping wood, singing, milling flour, milking the cow and all those lovely things I remember doing as a child.
We spent a lot of time around the fire and as a result we all smelled terrible...but it didn't matter as we all smelled together.
After a shower at home, unpacking the dirty clothes to wash them - yikes - the smokey smell floored me!
